Drawn by the same code that renders a published site, at the width a visitor reads it at. The words are ordinary sentences rather than instructions — you replace them, you do not fill them in.
North & FieldWhat we doHow a project runsPricesBrief
For companies that have outgrown their first look
North & Field is four people doing brand and product design for businesses between their first customers and their fiftieth.
A name already exists. We build the rest so it survives being used by people who are not us.
Product
Interfaces that ship. We work in the repository, not in a slide about the repository.
The handover
Files, tokens, and a written system your own team can extend without calling us.
How a project runs
1
Week 0 — the brief
Half a day, everybody who has an opinion in the room, and a written brief at the end that we both sign.
2
Weeks 1 to 5 — the work
Two directions, then one. Reviewed every Thursday, in public, with whoever wants to be there.
3
Week 6 — handover
Everything delivered, documented, and a session recorded for the people who join later.
4people
6weeks, typically
2projects at a time
Paste something a customer actually wrote to you. This is the one block on the page nobody should fill in for you.
What it costs
Fixed price, fixed scope, written down before anybody starts. By the project, never by the hour — an hourly rate rewards us for being slow and makes every good idea a conversation about budget.
Everybody who works on it, including the part you do not see.
Two rounds of revision on the chosen direction, which is almost always more than anybody uses.
Handover, documentation and a recorded session for the people who join later.
Questions
Can you start next week?
Rarely. Two projects at a time means a wait of three to six weeks, and we would rather say so than take a deposit and queue you.
Do you work with our developers?
Yes, and it is the better arrangement. We work in the repository and open pull requests like anybody else.
What if we hate it?
Week one is two directions, and if neither is right we do it again at our cost. That has happened twice in six years and both projects were better for it.
