You were promoted. Nobody explained the new job.
Coaching for first-time managers and founders who have just stopped doing the work they were good at.
Your calendar is full of other people's problems. You are doing your old job in the evenings because it is the only part you still know how to do well. Someone on your team is unhappy and you have been putting off the conversation for eleven days.
None of that is a character flaw. It is what happens when the skills that got somebody promoted stop being the ones the job needs, and nobody says so out loud.
What we work on
The conversation you are avoiding
Usually one specific person. We plan it, you have it, we look at what happened.
Where your week goes
Not a productivity system. A look at what you are actually paid to decide.
Saying the hard thing early
Most management problems are cheap in month one and expensive in month six.
How it runs
1
A first call, free
Thirty minutes. You describe the situation, I say whether I am the right person. About one in four times I am not, and I will tell you who is.
2
Six sessions over three months
Ninety minutes each, a fortnight apart. Written notes within a day, so you are not taking them during the conversation.
3
Email in between
For the thing that comes up on a Tuesday. Answered the same day, usually in a paragraph.
Paste something a customer actually wrote to you. This is the one block on the page nobody should fill in for you.
Rearranged free with a day's notice. Twice in a programme, after that they are charged.
Questions people ask first
Is this therapy?
No, and the difference matters. Coaching is about what you do at work next week. If what comes up needs a therapist, I will say so and stop billing you for the wrong thing.
Will my employer pay?
Often. There is an invoice with a scope on it that most training budgets accept without a conversation. Ask for it.
What if it is not working?
Say so at session three and we stop; you pay for what has happened and nothing else. Nobody has ever been talked into finishing.
Book the first call
Thirty minutes, free
No preparation, no sales call. Tell me roughly what is going on.
This collects answers once the page is published.
The letter
Every other Tuesday, one situation and what to do about it. The same material, for free.
