The whole page
Drawn by the same code that renders a published site, at the width a visitor reads it at. The words are ordinary sentences rather than instructions — you replace them, you do not fill them in.
Room 4SessionsWorkBookNotes
Room 4
Portraits, in a room with one window and no props. Ninety minutes, two looks, twelve finished frames.
Ninety minutes, two looks, one background. You will hate the first ten minutes and forget the camera is there by the twentieth — this is true of everybody, including the people who arrive saying they photograph badly.

How it goes
1
A call first
Ten minutes about what the pictures are for. A headshot for a board and a portrait for a book jacket are not the same session.
2
The session
Two looks, natural light, no team. Bring three things you actually wear.
3
The edit
You see every frame within two days and choose twelve. Those twelve come back finished within a week.
Full resolution
And a web-sized set, cropped square and wide, ready to use.
Licence to use them
Anywhere you like, for as long as you like. Written down, not implied.
Kept for five years
Lost the files? Ask. They are on two disks and neither is in this building.
Paste something a customer actually wrote to you. This is the one block on the page nobody should fill in for you.
Recent work
Drop a dozen frames in here. It is the only argument on the page that matters.
The room
One room, four metres of north-facing window, and a roll of grey paper. That is the whole kit, and it is deliberate: a room with six lights in it produces photographs that look like a room with six lights in it.
Everyone says this, and what they mean is that they have only ever seen photographs of themselves taken in bad light by someone in a hurry. Ninety minutes is mostly there to get past it.
Can I bring somebody?
Yes, and it usually helps. One person, not four.
Retouching?
Light. Spots go, lines stay. If you want more than that, this is the wrong studio and I will say so before you book.
Ask about a date
Tell me what the pictures are for and roughly when.
This collects answers once the page is published.
Twice a year, the studio opens for a day of short sittings
Thirty minutes, four frames, a fifth of the price. They are announced here and nowhere else.
